Rural Oregon faces unique challenges that make traditional in-person addiction treatment difficult to access. One of the most significant barriers is the extensive travel time required to reach healthcare facilities. Many residents in this region do not have access to reliable public transportation and owning a car is not always a feasible option. This often leaves individuals isolated and unable to obtain the help they need. 

For those who are employed or actively seeking employment, the standard medical office hours are 8-4 or 9-5, which can pose another significant obstacle. Balancing work and/or school commitments with treatment schedules can create a daunting task, especially when trying to rebuild one's life and maintain or obtain meaningful employment. The rigid schedules of IOP and PHP treatment programs do not align with the balance that some are trying to establish in their work and home lives.
